Rooted in the San Joaquin Valley. Turned by Hand. Built to Last.
About Julia
Julia Tinker grew up with wood in her hands and has never really put it down. Thirty years of woodworking, a published book, a high school Spanish classroom, and more hours at the lathe than she can count. She works from her garage shop in Fresno, salvaging trees from across the San Joaquin Valley that would otherwise be lost forever — eucalyptus, walnut, cork oak, Bradford pear — each one rescued and turned into something that will outlast all of us.
Her first lathe came from a friend's father's estate sale — a man who had dreamed of turning wood but passed before he ever got the chance. Julia taught herself on that lathe, determined to honor the dream he never got to live. She's never stopped.
Conservation is the Craft
Julia doesn't buy her wood from lumber stores. Every piece she turns comes from a tree that was already coming down — cleared from a property, felled in a storm, or destined for a chipper somewhere in the San Joaquin Valley. She salvages it, mills it, and turns it into something that will live in your home for generations. Buying one of Julia's pieces isn't just bringing home something beautiful. It's keeping a Valley tree alive in a different form.

In the Shop
It Starts with the Tree
Before a single piece ever meets the lathe, Julia is here — at the mill, hand-selecting every log herself. She works with a local supplier who mills trees salvaged from across the San Joaquin Valley, giving her access to species most woodturners never get to work with. She looks for character. Grain patterns, natural voids, the way a cross-section tells the story of how a tree grew. What she picks here is what determines everything that comes next.
